Consumer InformationHow is your confidence with online merchants? Ahh.... the Internet. What a great place to browse and shop. You can find deals on anything from Flowers to Plane tickets, Toys, Cars, Furniture, Insurance, Mortgages... you name it, you can find it on the net. Exercise equipment is also all over the net, being offered by a host of online merchants. Most exercise equipment merchants online are reputable exercise equipment dealers. But how can a person feel confident that the internet merchant is truly a full service exercise equipment dealer with the customer's best interests at heart? Here
are some helpful hints and methods to ease your mind Check their website for information about policies, returns, cancellations and most importantly the physical location of their main office, showroom and repair facility. When an online exercise equipment merchant has a local or regional location, it lends more credibility to their overall operation. If an exercise equipment dealer is experienced with customers on a day-to-day basis, there's an excellent chance that experience will carry over to their online business. Be aware.... Some online merchants will post residential addresses, P.O. Boxes, and possibly fake physical locations. It is unlikely these internet merchants will be able to provide much of anything in the way of service. Okay... here we go.... 1) The dealer should be able to provide at least a telephone number. If no number is available, forget about them! 2) Double-check by calling the number provided on the website... and ask for directions to their showroom so you can try out their equipment. If they can't provide directions, forget about them! 3) Triple-check by calling their local Chamber of Commerce. If the Chamber doesn't recognize the company, ask them to look it up in their local phone directory. They should be listed in the Yellow Pages under the heading of Exercise Equipment. If they can't be found, forget about them! 4) Quadruple-check by visiting the Better Business Bureau online to view the merchants record. Member merchants pledge to meet the BBBOnLine Reliability standards for ethical online business practices and have agreed to resolve complaints using the BBB's Dispute Resolution program. See PC World's article on online fraud and website seals of approval. 5) Most of all.... If an internet deal seems so fantastic that it is hard to believe or too good to be true.... FORGET ABOUT IT! 6) If you do decide to make a purchase over the Internet, you should also be aware of a new consumer fraud scheme.... please read Consumer Alert - Phishing Fraud for more information on what you should be aware of.
